Travel to London’s West End for the best that the capital has to offer for shopping, restaurants and bars and entertaining nights out
Travel to the West End
London's West End is a magnet for shoppers wanting a choice of flagship department stores, high street favourites and quirky and interesting boutiques.
Getting here: Take Southeastern trains to Victoria, Charing Cross, London St Pancras International, Stratford International or Waterloo and hop on a Tube to Tottenham Court Road, Oxford Circus or Bond Street.
Fun things to do...
You are spoilt for choice with some of London's finest shopping streets. Oxford Street, Regent Street, Bond Street and St Christopher's Place offer top stores such as Hamleys, the Apple Store, Selfridges and the flagship Topshop. Wander into Soho for interesting fabric shops in Berwick Street and Liberty, not to mention Carnaby Street and Kingly Court for something a little different.
Take in a show
London's West End theatre district centres around Shaftesbury Avenue – with more than 40 venues to choose from. If you want to go on the spur of the moment, try the TKTS booth in Leicester Square – and you can often get a discount there too. If you book a show in advance, don't forget to book your train tickets too.
Afternoon tea can be a real treat in London’s West End. From places like the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon in Fortnum and Mason in Piccadilly to the classy hotels, like Browns, The Dorchester and Claridges. If your train arrives at St Pancras International you might want to stop off at Marcus Wareing's Gilbert Scott – and enjoy the refurbished gothic hotel. You can usually add a glass of fizz to make it more of a celebration.
Be a culture vulture
Just a few minutes' walk from Charing Cross station you can see some glorious paintings – from old masters to the impressionists - in the National Gallery. You can also gaze on the likenesses of the famous – both historical and current – in the National Portrait Gallery. Both are free to wander around – you only pay for special exhibitions.
Use one of these offers and book your tickets in advance for a cheap day out.
